As Cellular Pathology Directorate Manager, you will provide visible, values-led leadership across a busy, high-profile service, supporting safe, timely and high-quality diagnostics for patients across our hospitals and wider network. You will work with clinical and scientific leaders to deliver operational performance, quality, workforce and financial objectives, driving service improvement, innovation and collaborative working.

Main duties of the job
You will lead the operational management of the Cellular Pathology directorate, ensuring safe, efficient end-to-end specimen pathways and delivery of agreed activity, quality and turnaround time standards.
Working with the Clinical Director as part of the senior leadership team, you will manage performance, workforce planning, rosters and budgets; oversee governance, incident response and compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements; and drive service improvement, digital transformation and capacity planning.
You will build strong relationships with theatres, clinics and corporate teams, communicate clearly with staff and stakeholders, and support a positive culture of continuous improvement, patient focus and staff wellbeing.

With the Clinical Director and Director of Operations, agree strategic and operational plans for the delivery and development of services.
Responsible for the provision of the scientific service and providing support and advice to clinicians and service users.
Writing and reviewing the directorates' strategic and operational policy (Quality, Health & Safety and Training & Development)
Authorises standard operating procedures and guidance used in the provision of service.
To present verbally or in writing the directors strategic and operational plans. Implements and coordinates with other directorates Government initiatives affecting services.
Manages the directorates budget, setting targets, monitoring spending, procurement of capital equipment and supplies.
Deals with complaints
Managers the staff within the directorate
Make sure the lab is compliant with the standards of the UKAS
Make sure all staff maintain their state-registration
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Approved science first degree and HCPC registration FIBMS/MSc or equivalent MBA or equivalent
Experience Essential
Evidence of active participation in continuous professional development Management experience of staff including human resource issues Experience of financial management, budgetary control and business planning Experience of safety issues, including implementation of COSHH within a safe working code of practice.
Desirable
Record of presenting papers at congress/seminars at national or international level.
Knowledge Essential
Knowledge of the education and training of biomedical scientists Knowledge of laboratory health and safety Good knowledge of general management E procedures and implementation of organisational change. Knowledge of spread sheets, data base, audit and presentation of data
Skills Essential
Ability to lead the Directorate management team in strategic planning and policy formulation Chair meetings at Directorate, Trust and at other appropriate meetings external to the Trust.
