Join West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust as a Maintenance Assistant and help keep our healthcare sites safe, efficient, and welcoming. Based mainly at Newmarket Hospital, with travel to community sites, this varied role supports patient care and staff wellbeing every day.
About the RoleThis hands-on role offers a wide range of tasks, from general repairs and basic fault finding to gardening and decorating. You'll help keep buildings compliant, functional, and comfortable, working closely with the Estates team in a supportive environment.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and basic fault finding Support planned preventative maintenance Assist with gardening, decorating, and general upkeep Help maintain plant equipment (training provided) Carry out basic testing and monitoring tasks Support tradespeople with minor works Respond to maintenance issues and emergencies Follow safety and compliance standard What We Offer

Person Specification
Education & Qualification Essential
NVQ level 2 in a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline Basic skills in literacy and numeracy
Desirable
NVQ level 3 in a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline BAFE certified Fire Equipment Maintenance qualification Water Quality Management certified
Experience & Knowledge Essential
Previous experience of working in an engineering and/or building maintenance role Maintenance background and skills to carry out minor mechanical / electrical and building repairs
Desirable
Experience of working in an acute hospital environment Grounds knowledge/ experience
Skills & Abilities Essential
Good organisational skills and ability to address and develop solutions to problems Adaptable to change Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team Organised approach to work Able to follow written instructions and procedures and report where these need to be adapted and updated Good IT skills High standard of workmanship and completion on all works undertaken
