Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Band 6 Plastic Specialist Dressings Nurse to join the Plastics team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills who can contribute to a supportive, forward-thinking nursing culture. The ideal candidate will embrace innovation, promote high standards of care, and reflect the Trust's values and strategic vision.

In this role, you will lead day-to-day operations within our nurse-led plastic dressing clinics, support consultant-led outpatient services. You will work closely with the Plastic Surgeons and Plastic Surgery Lead Clinical Nurse, supporting and deputising as needed to ensure excellent patient care and the effective management of resources.

The post also includes reviewing inpatients undergoing plastic surgery across the Trust and offering remote advice to patients and healthcare teams in other settings. You will play an active role in the education and training of staff involved in the care of plastic surgery patients.

Main duties of the job

Work full-time across both Calderdale and Huddersfield hospital sites, delivering specialist care within outpatient settings, Monday to Friday. Provide nurse led clinics, steroid injection clinics and minor op clinics alongside consultants and surgical plastic clinical lead nurse. Responsible for managing nurse led minor skin cancer surgery.Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Plastic Dressing Clinics, ensuring service continuity, leading development, and implementing changes as required. Manage an independent caseload of post-operative plastic surgery patients, undertaking assessment, treatment planning, wound management, advice, and ongoing monitoring through to discharge. This may occasionally include home visits. Participate in patient education, promoting holistic care and supporting individuals to understand and engage with their treatment plans. Advocate for patients by clearly representing their views, promoting their interests, and ensuring their dignity is always upheld. Maintaining an awareness of national and regional initiatives. Maintain consistently high standards of care and take prompt action where these standards are not met. Work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of the wider multidisciplinary team. Adhere to the NMC Code of Practice and all Trust policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines relevant to the role

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING Essential
