Job summary

Islington has several opportunities for September intake for an enthusiastic nurse who is looking to undertake the SCPHN programme.The Student Specialist Community Public Health HV/SN will work towards gaining the standards of proficiency for entry to Part 3 of the NMC register/recordable for Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN).

The PA/PS will provide a learning environment which is suitable for the students learning to gain the qualification needed.

Main duties of the job

The course is full time for one year and will commence in Sept 26 and comprises of 50% academic and 50% clinical placement in accordance with the University and Trust regulations. It is fully funded and salaried (Agenda for Change band 5). You will be sponsored by Whittington Health and secure a place at either Kings, City University to complete their PG Dip Level 7 in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing and qualify as a Health Visitor.

This will be a 12-month fixed term contract that will transfer onto a band 6 permanent position once completion of the course. (subject to terms and conditions).

To undertake this course, you must have studied at a level 7 in the last 5 years and have 2:2 or higher in you BSc..

Education & Qualifications Essential

Education & Qualifications Nursing/Midwifery degree/ Post Grad diploma/ Dip HE qualification equivalent of 120 credits at level 5 oEvidence of level 6 training/learning within last 5 years

Desirable

Worked in a Community Setting or with children and young people. Worked in an integrated environment

Knowledge & experience Essential

oKnowledge of the Public Health role of contemporary health visiting/school nursing & working in community settings oKnowledge of local and national policies which influence the provision of health visiting and school nursing oExperience of working within multidisciplinary teams oCurrent knowledge of safeguarding issues

Desirable

oEvidence of involvement in the management of difficult situations and conflict resolution oExperience of managing staff within a team . Able to assess children in school . Able to search for health needs of children and young people

Skills and Ability Essential

oEvidence of academic ability to study independently at degree or postgraduate level oGood computer literacy skills eg: Microsoft word, excel oDemonstrate knowledge of research - based practice
