About this role

Job summary

The University Medical Centre in Bath is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Practice Nurse for General Practice treatment room duties, with the aim that this role can be extended to fit your skill base if you hold additional qualifications, for example if you are skilled in chronic disease management or are a Nurse Prescriber.

The role is centred around a mostly University student patient population and we welcome new members to join our nursing team and to help support the needs of our patient population.

Flexible working shift patterns are able to be considered and a competitive salary is being offered for the successful candidate.

Full-time and part-time nurse applications will be considered, but please note that we are not able to offer annualised contracts for term time working only as we need our team to work across the full calendar year.

Clinical system: TPP / SystmOne

Salary: Competitive, NHS Pension

Working Days: Full-Time or Part-Time positions are able to be considered with the days and hours to be agreed, but working ideally a minimum of 3 days a week.

Initial interviews will be taking place on Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th May 2026.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a range of nursing assessments and provide appropriate care and treatment in line with Practice policy and protocols.

Provide specific evidence based practical skills and to have knowledge in most of the following areas:

Perform wound care management and experience in dressings

Carry out ear examinations

Undertake opportunistic screening when clinically required

Perform phlebotomy and electrocardiography (ECGs)

Administer adult and pediatric injections under individualised prescriptions or PGD ensuring safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs

Provide an adult and childhood immunisation service working to PGDs following appropriate training if required

Experience in chronic disease management or a willingness to undertake training

Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness or a willingness to undertake training

Sexual health assessments and investigations including emergency contraception

Provide advice on healthy lifestyles, assist and support patients in changing behaviours and refer appropriately

Deliver travel healthcare including vaccinations and advice following appropriate training if required

Undertake first aid and management of emergencies such as burns, hemorrhage, hypo/hyperglycemic emergencies, asthma attacks

The post holder will undertake a range of nursing assessments and provide appropriate care and treatment in conjunction with the GPs in accordance with Practice policy and protocols.

The Practice Nurse will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures as well as promoting self-care in order that patients are empowered to manage their own healthcare needs. To support the clinical team and to act within professional boundaries striving to improve standards of care.

The post holder will need to be aware of safeguarding requirements and support practice policy working in a health care environment.

A full employment history will be required as well as providing details of any gaps in employment.

Knowledge of key elements of the Primary Care contract such as having an understanding of the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) , Local Enhanced Service (LES) and Direct Enhanced Service (DES) delivery is beneficial, along with adhering to CQC Primary Care requirements which is an important element of this post.

Person Specification

Chronic Disease Management Desirable

Chronic Disease Management for Asthma and / or Diabetes would be beneficial to the role

Experience Essential

Evidence of appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to ensure knowledge is current and maintaining competencies Experience of working autonomously and also as a member of the Team Engagement with Revalidation process Ability to evaluate safety and to understand the effectiveness of own clinical practice

Qualifications Essential

Registered General Nurse (Currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council)

Desirable

Prescribing qualifications
