Job summary
There is an exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced Education co-ordinator to join us in the Occupational Therapy team . This team includes Occupational Therapists, technical instructors Occupational therapy assistants, wellbeing facilitators and sports staff . Together we provide a comprehensive range of interventions to meet the therapeutic needs of the adult patient group and promote recovery and well-being.
The education co-ordinator will deliver a high quality educational programme to a diverse patient population, within a low secure service , with the support and under the supervision of Occupational Therapists.
The education co-ordinator will be expected to to complete initial assessments and devise individual learning plans, in collaboration with other members of the multi- disciplinary team ((MDT) under clinical and managerial supervision.
We are looking for a an education co-ordinator to provide classes in Maths, English, and ICT and functional skills.
You will liaise with staff within therapy services and the ward to determine effective methods of delivery for small groups of patients and individuals.
You will need to be flexible, organised and demonstrate effective communication skills.

Main duties of the job
To teach basic and higher level skills (Level 2) in numeracy, literacy and ICT.
To teach functional skills in maths and English.
To provide educational support to patients undertaking vocational qualification's, distance learning and Open University courses.
To prepare students for examinations in the core subjects as outlined above.
To teach English Language learners
To teach patients with additional learning needs.
To devise individual learning plans for patient's.
To conduct assessments - initial, diagnostic, formative and summative.
To prepare Individual Learning plans, lesson plans and schemes of work as required.

To engage students in education in a forensic setting
To identify learning needs for students and apply effective teaching strategies for their individual needs.
To produce reports on patient's progress within education.
To provide statistics as required by the Occupational Therapy Operational Manager.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

Qualifications Essential
GCSE English Language and Mathematics equivalent at Grade C or above. Nationally recognised teaching qualification at either Level 4 (CTLLS, CET, Cert Ed) or Level 5 (DTLLS, DET) or equivalent. Relevant qualification for subject or subjects you will be teaching. For example:- ICDL (Essentials) qualification or equivalent. ICDL Advanced or equivalent ESOL qualification

Evidence of ongoing professional development and training to maintain competencies

Experience Essential
Minimum of one years' experience of teaching core numeracy and literacy skills to at least Level 2, both individually and in groups. Minimum of one years' experience of teaching ICT skills or ESOL if applying for those subjects. Experience of devising and applying schemes of work, lesson plans and individual learning plans. Experience of maintaining written records, databases and producing reports.
Desirable
Experience of working in a secure setting, e.g. prison, young offender institute or forensic unit. Experience of teaching adults with specific learning needs, e.g. mental health issues and/or learning disability Experience of teaching adults for whom English is not their first language. Experience of supervising other staff - eg Teaching Assistant
