Job Summary

The post holder has successfully completed the Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) programme, achieving 120 Level 7 credits in line with the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) curriculum. This ensures they have developed the required knowledge, skills, and competencies to meet the standards for FICM membership.

The Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) is a nationally recognised role that delivers expert clinical care to patients requiring Level 1 to Level 3 support. While primarily based within Critical Care, the role also involves providing specialist interventions for critically ill patients across the Trust.

The post holder will contribute to the Critical Care medical rota and work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. They are expected to practise within the established ACCP framework, maintaining awareness of their professional scope and limitations at all times.

Main duties of the job

Perform comprehensive clinical assessments of patients' conditions. Request, undertake, and interpret diagnostic investigations as appropriate. Develop, initiate, and manage patient-centred treatment plans. Deliver clear, accurate, and timely clinical handovers. Carry out invasive procedures within the defined scope of practice. Provide clinical leadership and support within a multidisciplinary team. Practise autonomously within recognised levels of competence. Demonstrate advanced knowledge across key areas relevant to critical care. Critically appraise and synthesise information to support the assessment and management of critically ill patients. Apply diagnostic principles and clinical reasoning to inform decision-making and clinical judgement. Integrate theory into practice using structured clinical decision-making approaches. Apply principles of therapeutics, including safe and effective prescribing. Demonstrate understanding of professional accountability and relevant legal frameworks for advanced practice. Practise at an advanced level within the multidisciplinary team in line with the competency framework. Apply evidence-based principles to the care and management of critically ill patients. Participate in and undertake clinical audit to support quality improvement.
