Main duties of the job Clinical Leadership & ExpertiseDeliver advanced assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for stroke patients, including non-medical prescribing. Act as an expert in stroke medicine and advanced practice, providing specialist advice for acutely unwell patients. Service Development & ManagementLead efficient stroke care pathways with multidisciplinary teams. Develop policies, guidelines, and patient pathways where none exist. Monitor and evaluate services through audits, research, and performance indicators. Education & TrainingDesign and deliver specialist training for all staff groups and medical students. Support clinical placements with higher education institutions and promote a learning culture for professional development. Research & Evidence-Based PracticeInitiate and contribute to stroke research projects. Implement evidence-based practice and drive innovation to enhance academic status and research capability within the Trust. Collaboration & CommunicationBuild strong partnerships with senior clinicians, allied health professionals, networks, and external stakeholders. Communicate complex, sensitive information effectively to patients, carers, and staff. Governance & QualityEnsure compliance with governance, safety, and quality standards. Participate in incident and complaint investigations, ensuring timely resolution. Uphold Trust values and maintain high professional standards.

Job description Job responsibilities Clinical Expertise

Deliver advanced assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for stroke patients, including non-medical prescribing. Act as an expert practitioner in all aspects of stroke medicine and acute care. Provide specialist advice and guidance for managing acutely unwell stroke patients. Leadership & Service Development Lead strategic planning for stroke services and contribute to the Trusts Nursing Strategy and Quality Agenda. Develop and implement policies, guidelines, and patient pathways where no previous standards exist. Ensure smooth and efficient operation of stroke care pathways in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Monitor service performance using audits, research, and key performance indicators. Education & Training Design and deliver specialist education programmes for nurses, AHPs, and medical students. Work with higher education institutions to support clinical placements and learning opportunities. Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development. Research & Evidence-Based Practice Initiate and lead research projects in stroke care. Implement evidence-based practice and encourage service innovation. Increase research capability and academic status of stroke services within the Trust. Collaboration & Communication Build strong partnerships with senior medical staff, allied health professionals, stroke provider networks, and external stakeholders. Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers, and staff. Represent the Trust at local and national events as a senior lead in stroke care. Governance & Quality Ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety, and quality standards. Participate in investigations of incidents and complaints, ensuring timely resolution. Uphold Trust values and maintain high standards of probity and professionalism.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education Essential

Full Registration with the NMC/HCPC MSc in appropriate subject Hold ALS certification Substantial post registration experience in education and training Post registration qualification in appropriate field of health care E.g. Stroke Care

Desirable

Recognised leadership qualification PG Cert/PG Dip in education Advanced Practitioner Non-medical prescriber certification Management experience certification Research experience, leading to peer reviewed publication Plan to work towards PhD

Knowledge & Experience Essential

Recent, substantial stroke care experience at a senior level Knowledge of global NHS current issues Demonstrate quality improvement in health care Extensive experience in change management An understanding of human factors and implications in clinical practice Experience of audit completion and analysis Able to understand the role of research and development and utilise these in daily work

To have undertaken a research study Experience of Publication/presentation at National level
