About this role
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant to join the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will become an integral member of the existing Geriatric Medicine consultant team and will contribute to the delivery and development of specialist services for older adults across trauma and surgical pathways.
The role has been developed to support the Trust's growing need for specialist geriatric input for older adults admitted with frailty trauma, as well as frail surgical patients requiring Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, optimisation and peri-operative care.
The role offers an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and shape the Trust's surgical liaison service, working closely with surgical and anaesthetic colleagues to establish a model of care that reflects their clinical expertise, professional interests and vision for best practice in the care of frail older adults.
There will be opportunities to develop new pathways and innovative models of care in response to the needs of the local population and emerging best practice.
The balance between frailty trauma, surgical liaison, peri-operative care and outpatient activity will evolve with the development of the service. This provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic consultant to play a leading role in shaping a high-quality, integrated service for frail older adults.
