About the Courtauld

The Courtauld advances how we see and understand the visual arts, as an internationally renowned centre for the teaching & research of art history and a major public gallery. Founded by collectors and philanthropists in the 1930s, the organisation has been at the forefront of the study of art ever since, through advanced research and conservation practice, innovative teaching, the renowned collection and inspiring exhibitions of its gallery, and engaging and accessible activities, education and events.

This is an exciting time to join us. We are expanding into new areas of scholarship, deepening access to our teaching and research, growing our gallery programme and embarking on a capital programme to build a world-class campus at Somerset House that will reunite the work of the Courtauld Gallery and Institute into one state-of-the-art facility.

What we're looking for

We are looking for a highly motivated, creative and ambitious Digital Content Producer/ Videographer to join the Courtauld's Marketing & Communications team.

The role sits at the intersection of scholarship and storytelling: translating the Courtauld Institute's research strengths, faculty expertise, and student community into engaging, accessible video content for a broad non-specialist audience. This content will build on the Courtauld Institute's profile as a world-leading centre for the history, curation, conservation and business of art, and will also support recruitment to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

You will work closely with our scholars, the marketing and communications team and research colleagues to identify engaging stories worth telling and turn them into video content that performs across all platforms including the Courtauld website, YouTube, social media and email channels.

A keen eye for detail, a strong visual sensibility and excellent video production and editing skills are essential to this role.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Video Production

Support the realisation of the Courtauld’s brand promise ‘Look deeper, see further’ through the creation of engaging, accessible & well-researched video content. Showcase the work of the Courtauld Institute faculty, including their research interests and new scholarship, ensuring that all video output is appropriate and engaging for a broad audience. Deliver end-to-end content creation: from concept development, storyboarding, scripting and briefing, through to shooting, editing & shipping video assets. Extend the content programme beyond permanent faculty to include PhD researchers, visiting fellows, conservation staff & students, reflecting the full breadth of the Courtauld Institute’s academic community. Support open days, admissions, public lectures, research centre launches and other academic-facing opportunities.

Production and Delivery

Organise and deliver shoots, in collaboration with the Marketing team, across academic buildings, offices, libraries, archives and off-site locations, communicating effectively with academic and professional services stakeholders & managing risk. In collaboration with the Courtauld Institute marketing team, manage permissions, copyright and release forms for all contributors and for featured artworks and other licensable content, ensuring necessary sign-offs are obtained & recorded. Ensure all videos are subtitled and meet current accessibility standards.

Idea Generation and Planning

Build & maintain a pipeline of faculty and research video ideas in collaboration with academic research and marketing and communications departments. Advise academic and professional services colleagues on video best practice, helping shape ideas into content that will land with a public audience, including longer form content & social media edits.
