About this role

You are probably not looking for this job You completed your years at school a few years ago and have tried a few things since. Agency, maybe. Recruitment, maybe. Maybe you built something of your own and tasted success. You have learned a lot and you are good at what you do - but nothing has felt like the right fit yet.

You are organized to a degree other people find excessive. You are also wired for sales - you spot the opening, you make the call, you follow up before anyone has to ask. Those two rarely show up in the same person. When they do, that person is worth a great deal to a business like ours.

The job You will support the engine room of business development at Nexus Communications - a Toronto-based employer branding and strategic communications consultancy working with enterprise clients. You will own our CRM, work as an integral part of our Business Development Team to generate demand among the hundreds of people who already know us, work with our team to convert that into meetings, and build the first drafts of the decks and proposals that follow.

This is a key role on a sales team, but we are not expecting anyone to cold call - we don’t do it - but every list you touch is warm, and every name on it is an opening. You help decide who is worth the call, assist with creating the interest, support finding the need underneath it, work with others to determine the best times for following up while it still matters, and do the small unexpected things that make someone want to take the meeting.

There is a lot of ground here for one person, and we cover it by working AI-forward. Claude and other AI tools is part of how we research, draft and keep pace - with a human in the loop on everything that leaves the building, staying aligned with our AI use policies and practices. You will be expected to use it well, and to know where your own judgement has to take over.

You will report to our Business Development Strategist and work directly with our President, our Director of Talent Strategy and our VP, Operations - not three layers down from them. You will be mentored, and you will be in the room where decisions get made.

What you will own

Demand generation. Targeted campaigns over email, LinkedIn and phone to our clients, our prospect lists and conference attendees - and the warm prospecting that turns a name into a conversation. Our CRM (Monday.com) – keeping it accurate, current, and the place we go to see where the pipeline actually stands. Follow-up that lands while it still matters - scheduling, agendas, key points, and the nudge when someone goes quiet. Targeted proposals. First-draft capabilities decks built to the need in front of you, turned into scopes of work in our proposal builder platform, then sent, tracked and chased. The conference cycle – Attendee lists go into our CRM on site, interactions get added and categorized, campaigns go out. We attend six to eight events a year in Canada and the US; you may join one or two. Our webinar series, end to end.

What you bring

Four or more years in something adjacent - business development, sales, recruitment, agency, marketing, consulting or communications. You are wired for sales. You understand how demand gets created, how a pipeline moves, and why a follow-up sent today beats a better one sent next week. Knowledge of and a real passion for HR, talent and culture. That is the world our clients live in. You can write a sales follow-up - by email or on LinkedIn - that sounds like a human being and gets a reply. You can take a messy set of ideas and turn it into a clear, persuasive deck aimed at a specific need. AI-forward, human in the loop. You already use AI to cover more ground than one person should be able to, and you know where it stops. Experience with Claude and other AI tools and platforms - including building Claude skills - is a real asset. Smart, ambitious and disciplined. You do not just thrive on structure, you create it where it does not exist. Outgoing without being showy, and collaborative by default - we are small, and nothing here gets done alone.

The details

$75,000 to $85,000 in total earnings - a competitive base plus a performance component on things this role actually controls. We post the range because you would find it anyway. Remote, with a preference for the Greater Toronto Area or Ottawa. Valid passport and eligibility to work in Canada and travel to the US. Business Development Coordinator is the posted title; the title you carry with clients may differ.
