Overview
Hays are recruiting for an experienced Purchase Ledger to join the finance team of an established construction business.This is a busy and varied role responsible for maintaining an accurate and well-controlled purchase ledger. You'll help ensure supplier invoices and credit notes are correctly processed, authorised and prepared for payment.
Purchase Ledger Permanent Full Time Hours Based on site Paying up to £32,000 (depending on level of experience)
What you'll be doing...
Reporting to the Management Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
Processing high volumes of supplier and subcontractor invoices and credit notesMatching invoices against purchase orders, delivery records and agreed ratesChecking coding, VAT treatment, project allocation and authorisationInvestigating discrepancies, duplicate invoices and missing documentationReconciling supplier statements and resolving outstanding itemsMaintaining accurate supplier accounts and recordsPreparing proposed payment runs and supporting schedules for approvalResponding professionally to supplier queriesSupporting month-end reconciliations, accruals and aged creditor reviewsMaintaining accurate information across Sage 50, Eque2 and ChimesIdentifying recurring errors or control issues and escalating them appropriately What we're looking for...
We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:
Previous Purchase Ledger, Accounts Payable or high-volume transactional finance experienceExperience within construction, contracting, CIS or project-based accountingA good understanding of invoice processing, purchase orders, credit notes, supplier reconciliations and VAT documentationConfidence using Sage 50, Microsoft Outlook and ExcelStrong accuracy and the ability to manage a substantial volume of transactionsThe confidence to identify discrepancies and challenge incomplete informationClear and professional communication skillsStrong organisation and the ability to meet deadlines It would be advantageous if you also had:
AAT studies or a relevant bookkeeping or accounts qualificationPrevious experience using Eque2, Chimes or a similar construction accounting system What you'll get in return...
