About this role

Finance Manager

High Wycombe | £50,000–£60,000 per annum | Hybrid working

Enjoy taking ownership, getting into the detail and making a tangible difference to a business?

Our client, an expanding, family-run business in High Wycombe, is looking for a hands-on Finance Manager to take responsibility for its finance function and work closely with the Managing Director. This is an opportunity to combine day-to-day financial management with meaningful input into budgeting, cash flow and business planning.

The opportunity

You’ll join a small, close-knit team where your work will be visible and your ideas will matter. With scope to improve systems, streamline processes and introduce automation, you’ll have the opportunity to shape how the finance function operates.

As the business grows, there is also potential to recruit an additional accounts colleague and build a small team.

This is not a purely reporting-focused position. Much of your time will involve managing day-to-day transactions, resolving queries and ensuring the numbers are accurate. Some invoicing requires an investigative approach: reviewing correspondence and operational records, identifying changes and making sure the final invoice reflects what was delivered.

What you’ll be doing

Taking ownership of invoicing, credit control, supplier payments and bank reconciliations.Maintaining accurate, up-to-date financial records in Xero.Investigating invoice discrepancies and resolving customer account queries.Preparing monthly payroll information and arranging the associated payments.Producing financial reports and overseeing month-end and year-end processes alongside external accountants.Working with the Managing Director on budgets, forecasts, cash flow and business planning.Developing financial controls, useful KPIs and more efficient ways of working.Supporting HR administration, onboarding and wider office processes.Coordinating compliance records, reporting and audit documentation as part of the role’s broader remit. About you

You’ll be an experienced finance professional who enjoys the variety and responsibility of working in a smaller business. You’ll be equally comfortable processing invoices, tracking down missing information and discussing financial performance with the Managing Director.

You’ll bring:

Strong Xero expertise — essential for this position.A practical, thorough approach to bookkeeping and day-to-day financial management.Excellent attention to detail and the persistence to investigate discrepancies.Confidence communicating with customers, suppliers, colleagues and external accountants. The ability to organise a varied workload and take ownership of outstanding tasks.A willingness to contribute beyond finance, including HR, office and compliance administration. An interest in improving processes and helping a growing business operate more effectively. Why consider this role?

This opportunity offers genuine ownership, direct access to the Managing Director and the chance to influence both everyday operations and longer-term planning. It will suit someone who wants a broad, practical role with room to improve processes and develop the finance function as the business expands.

Alongside a base salary of 50-60k (depending on experience), there is hybrid working once up to speed, benefits and free on site parking.
