About this role
Job Title: Trino Power User / Analyst
1. Role Description
· Design, deploy, and operate Trino clusters on-prem Kubernetes · Configure and maintain Trino catalogs and connectors for heterogeneous data sources (Hive, Iceberg, Kafka, object storage) · Optimize query execution performance through tuning of memory, CPU, spill and partitioning · Implement workload management using resource groups, query prioritization, and concurrency limits · Ensure high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance of the Trino clusters · Monitor cluster performance, query latency, and system health using observability tools · Troubleshoot system-level issues, query failures, and resource contention · Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analysts to define best practices for efficient data access · Contribute to architecture decisions around data lakehouses, federated query, and distributed analytics
2. Experience
· 5+ years of experience in distributed data systems, data platforms, or big data infrastructure · Hands-on experience with Trino (or Presto) cluster deployment and operations · Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, or VM-based distributed systems · Experience integrating data sources such as Hive Metastore, Iceberg and Kafka · Proven experience in performance tuning and distributed query optimization · Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace) · Familiarity with security standards and access control mechanisms (LDAP, Kerberos, RBAC) · Experience working in Agile environments with cross-functional teams · Experience in financial services or regulated environments is a plus
3. Skills
· Strong understanding of Trino architecture (coordinator/worker, execution model, query planning, resource groups) · Expertise in performance tuning (joins, partition pruning, predicate pushdown, resource usage) · Knowledge of modern data architectures (data lakes, lakehouses, data mesh) · Hands-on experience with open table formats Iceberg · Experience in infrastructure and platform engineering (Kubernetes, Linux, networking) · Familiarity with Java/JVM-based systems · Experience with monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting distributed systems · Basic scripting/programming skills (Python, Bash) for automation · Strong problem-solving and system-level debugging skills
