Are you passionate about shipping, commercially driven and at your best when negotiating the right deal? Do you enjoy working in an international environment where no two days are the same? Then this might be the opportunity for you. As a Charterer, you play a key role in finding the best commercial and operational solutions for our shipping activities. You manage your charters from preparation and negotiation through to final follow-up, working closely with ship owners, agents, customers, traders, freight forwarders and our internal operational teams. What will you do? You take ownership of your assigned charters and make sure all parties are aligned throughout the process. Your responsibilities include:
• Managing chartering activities from initial request to final execution and follow-up.
• Maintaining strong and effective relationships with customers, ship owners, agents, charterers, traders and freight forwarders.
• Identifying the best available commercial and operational solutions based on customer needs and market conditions.
• Requesting and evaluating freight prices and negotiating charter terms with external parties.
• Drafting and reviewing charter parties, with attention to commercial conditions, contractual provisions and risk.
• Closely following developments in the shipping market and sharing relevant market insights internally.
• Working together with Operations, Finance and other internal stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
• Ensuring that all activities comply with applicable compliance requirements and quality standards.
• Supporting our international forwarding activities when needed.
• Looking for opportunities to continuously improve the way we work.
Who are we looking for? You combine a strong interest/experience in the maritime world with a commercial mindset. You are comfortable making decisions, negotiating with different parties and keeping a clear overview, even when circumstances change quickly. Ideally, you bring:
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in logistics, maritime studies or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in chartering, shipping, forwarding or a related environment.
• Good knowledge of chartering and charter parties.
• Knowledge of freight, documentary credit and the shipping market, including relevant customs and port restrictions.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• Strong digital skills and the ability to quickly become familiar with freight forwarding systems.
What makes you successful in this role? You are someone who takes initiative rather than waiting for things to happen. You spot opportunities, anticipate potential issues and know how to set priorities in a fast-moving environment. You communicate clearly and professionally with very different stakeholders and remain solution-oriented under pressure. During negotiations, you understand both the commercial opportunity and the operational reality behind the deal. Above all, you are a team player. You share information, involve colleagues at the right time and contribute to finding the best solution for the business and our customers. Why join us? This is a role for someone who wants to be close to the market and close to the business. You will work in an international shipping environment where your commercial decisions have a direct impact and where you have the opportunity to take real ownership of your projects. You will join an experienced team and work with a broad network of internal and external partners across the maritime and logistics industry.
