Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. Role Purpose Lead controls technical receiving, readiness verification, and manufacturing handover for CPO-related MLA, MMC, and other assigned precision automation processes within SCS. Partner with project equipment design teams, engineering functions, IT , operations, suppliers, and system integrators to translate process and product requirements into robust controls solutions, support qualification, implement data acquisition, and enable pilot production, ramp-up, and stable manufacturing. Build controls capability for new product introduction and future equipment upgrades. Own the continuous improvement of assigned precision automation equipment by developing, integrating, commissioning, troubleshooting, and improving PLC, HMI, motion control, robotics, machine vision, sensors, safety systems, and industrial networks. Key Responsibilities Project Controls Receiving and Handover Work closely with project equipment design teams, suppliers, and system integrators to understand product-critical requirements, process windows, equipment operating mechanisms, tooling interactions, motion and vision concepts, control sequences, and key automation risks for CPO-related MLA, MMC. Participate in technical specifications, design reviews, supplier build, FAT, SAT, installation, IO checkout, dry run, sequence debug, process debug, qualification, validation, and production release to identify controls risks, verify equipment performance against product and process needs, and propose improvements before manufacturing handover. Review, verify acceptance criteria and receive key controls deliverables for assigned automation equipment, including PLC/HMI software, electrical drawings, data-acquisition design, software backup and version-control records, recipe and parameter settings, IO documentation, recovery methods. Sustaining Controls Ownership, Troubleshooting, and Continuous Improvement Own day-to-day controls troubleshooting and recovery support for assigned precision automation equipment, including PLC/HMI software issues, motion faults, robot or vision abnormalities, sensor failures, communication problems, safety interlock trips, parameter drift, capability loss, recurring downtime, and process-related control defects. Apply structured root-cause analysis, effectiveness verification, and data-based problem solving to eliminate recurring controls failures, reduce downtime, improve availability, OEE, MTBF, and MTTR, and strengthen equipment recovery, restart, and escalation practices. Drive continuous improvement and future equipment upgrades through automation improvement, cycle-time reduction, alarm reduction, yield and capability improvement, recipe and parameter control, controls standardization, software enhancement, capacity optimization, and lifecycle cost reduction. Cross-functional Project Execution, Supplier Support, and Compliance Work with suppliers, system integrators, contractors, contract manufacturers, and global engineering teams to clarify controls requirements, review design deliverables, define acceptance criteria, verify issue closure, support warranty actions, and drive post-startup controls improvements. Provide controls technical guidance and training to process engineering, maintenance, manufacturing, trainers, technicians, and key operators on troubleshooting methods, recovery procedures, safe operation, operating standards, and controls knowledge transfer. Visibly support a safe work environment and ensure controls design, installation, qualification, change, and operation comply with EHS, legal, regulatory, customer, and company requirements.
