The Role:

As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant you will assist the Speech and Language Therapy team (SLT) in providing Speech and Language Therapy services, covering speech, language and social communication, to children and young people working in a way that puts their health, safety and welfare first.

Key Duties

Work under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist using own initiative as appropriate and ensuring that changes, concerns and improvements are communicatedPrepare equipment, materials and resources to support activities with childrenAssist the Speech and Language Therapist with report writing and other administrative requirementsAssist with and facilitate Speech and Language Therapy group activities and the delivering of speech, language and / or social communication programmes designed by the Speech and Language TherapistsProvide training to colleagues in communication methods such as visual communication methods, Social Stories, and use of appropriate computer softwareSupport the Therapy Team with administrative duties related to therapeutic provision as directed by Lead Speech and Language Therapist and / or Clinical LeadRecognise and work within professional boundaries, seeking supervision or guidance where required to ensure safe, effective practice. Qualifications

GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential. Essential

Interest in language and communication difficultiesCommitment to and experience of supporting children and young people with a variety of communication needsSkills in working with pupils with special needs.Confidence in own communication skills, and ability to guide and motivate other staff.Personal organisation skills, capacity and flexibility for large and varied workloadCompetence and confidence in computer literacy skillsKnowledge of and / or experience of Intensive Interaction, PECS, Alternative of Augmentative Communication systems, Attention Autism, Zones of RegulationExperience of creating visual resources such as social stories, visual timetables Due to the rural location of the school, candidates are strongly advised to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.
