About this role
As an intern, you will explore the feasibility of running Flutter on i.MX6 and i.MX8 based embedded Linux platforms with hardware acceleration. The goal of this internship is to enable modern user interfaces on constrained embedded devices by integrating Flutter with different Linux graphics stacks. You will work at the intersection of embedded systems, graphics pipelines and modern UI frameworks, where standard solutions are rarely available.
Your main responsibilities include:
Setting up and configuring embedded Linux environments for i.MX6 and i.MX8 platformsIntegrating and evaluating different graphics stacks such as Framebuffer, Xorg, Wayland or AndroidBuilding custom Debian based Linux images with Flutter runtime supportEnabling and configuring open source GPU drivers and hardware accelerationInvestigating Flutter engine compatibility with embedded Linux environmentsDeploying and validating a minimal Flutter application, benchmarking performance and identifying optimization opportunities You are an inquisitive and technically driven student who enjoys working close to the hardware while exploring modern software frameworks. You are motivated by complex engineering challenges and are eager to deepen your knowledge of Linux internals and graphics systems.
You bring:
A relevant educational background in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or MechatronicsSolid knowledge of Linux and experience working with the Linux command lineBasic understanding of embedded systems and ARM based platformsFamiliarity with graphics concepts such as Framebuffer, OpenGL/EGL or GPU accelerationInterest in Flutter or modern UI frameworks, prior experience is considered a plusA structured and analytical mindset, with the ability to investigate, experiment and document findingsThis internship offers a rare opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology where modern UI frameworks meet embedded Linux systems.
