Are you a resilient and motivated Behaviour Support Assistant who wants to help young people overcome behavioural and emotional challenges?

Do you have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, or are you keen to develop your skills in behaviour support?

A supportive Specialist School in Reading is looking for a committed Behaviour Support Assistant to join its team as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of patience, consistency, and positive relationships when supporting pupils who face barriers to learning.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work with pupils who may experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, ASD, ADHD, and associated behavioural challenges. You will help students manage their emotions, develop positive coping strategies, and engage more successfully with education.

Working alongside Teachers, Teaching Assistants, and pastoral staff, you will help provide a calm and structured environment where pupils feel supported and encouraged to succeed.

This Behaviour Support Assistant role will involve:

Supporting pupils who display challenging behaviour or struggle with emotional regulation.

Providing targeted 1:1 and small group support.

Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

Helping students develop coping mechanisms and positive responses to challenging situations.

Implementing behaviour support strategies in line with school policies.

Encouraging positive engagement, participation, and progress in learning.

Working collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams to support individual pupil needs.

The school is looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant who is calm under pressure, empathetic, and confident in responding to challenging situations. Experience in SEN, SEMH, youth work, care, mentoring, or similar settings would be beneficial.

This Behaviour Support Assistant opportunity would suit someone looking to build a career in education, psychology, youth work, or mental health support, as well as experienced support staff seeking a rewarding new role.

If you are passionate about helping young people develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed, this Behaviour Support Assistant position in Reading could be ideal for you.
