Financial Controller - European Business

We're working with a fast-growing, international e-commerce business as they continue to build out their finance function in London.
They are looking for a qualified accountant to take ownership of the finance function for one of their European businesses. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accountant who is ready to step into their first Financial Controller role, or someone who has had limited experience at FC level and is looking to broaden their responsibilities.
The role
Reporting into the senior finance team, you'll have ownership of the day-to-day financial management and reporting for a European entity, working closely with both the wider London finance team and local operational stakeholders.
You'll be responsible for ensuring strong financial control while also getting involved in the commercial and operational side of the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
Ownership of the monthly management and financial reporting cycleBalance sheet management, reconciliations and financial controlsOversight of the month-end close processSupporting budgeting, forecasting and variance analysisWorking with operational teams to understand financial performanceManaging statutory accounting and audit requirementsEnsuring compliance with relevant local accounting and tax requirementsSupporting cash flow management and working capitalIdentifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reportingWorking collaboratively with the wider London finance teamSupporting ad hoc commercial and financial analysis as the business continues to grow About you
We're looking for someone who is ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with a strong grounding in financial accounting.
You might be:
A newly qualified accountant ready to take your first step into an FC position; orAn accountant who has had some initial Financial Controller experience and is looking for a broader roleCurrently working in a fast-paced commercial, consumer, retail or e-commerce environmentComfortable taking ownership and working independentlyStrong technically, with good attention to detail and financial controlsCommercially minded and interested in understanding the business behind the numbersConfident communicating with stakeholders outside of financeSomeone who enjoys working in a changing, entrepreneurial environment This is not a role requiring extensive FC experience. We're particularly interested in accountants with the potential and ambition to grow into the role, rather than someone who has spent many years operating at Financial Controller level.
