We are currently recruiting dedicated and reliable School Caretakers to work across a range of primary and secondary schools throughout Newcastle and surrounding areas. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker, site supervisor, facilities assistant, premises officer or maintenance professional looking for work within education.

I currently need a full-time Caretaker for 7.5 hours per day (split shifts) at a school in Gateshead.

A great school caretaker is much more than someone who opens and locks gates. You are the person who helps keep students safe, ensures facilities run smoothly, and supports schools in providing the best possible learning environment.
Every day is different. From carrying out maintenance tasks and health & safety checks to supporting contractors and ensuring school grounds remain presentable, you'll play a vital role in the day-to-day operation of the school.
Key Responsibilities
As a School Caretaker, your duties may include:
Opening and securing school premisesCarrying out routine maintenance and minor repairsConducting health and safety inspectionsEnsuring buildings and grounds are clean, safe and well-maintainedManaging heating, lighting and alarm systemsLiaising with external contractors and service providersSetting up rooms and facilities for school events and activitiesMonitoring site security and reporting any issuesAssisting with emergency maintenance requirementsSupporting compliance with school policies and proceduresCleaning of office/staff toiles/hall floor What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from candidates who have:
Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, Premises Officer, Facilities Assistant or Maintenance OperativeKnowledge of basic building maintenance, repairs and site managementUnderstanding of health and safety proceduresExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailA proactive and professional approachGood communication skills and the ability to work independentlyA genuine commitment to maintaining a safe environment for children and young people Desirable Experience
Experience working within a school, academy or educational settingHealth & Safety qualificationsManual Handling certificationFirst Aid qualificationExperience managing contractors and compliance checks What We Offer
