We are working with a Local Authority seeking a Senior Planning Policy Officer to play a key role in the preparation and delivery of its new Local Plan. This is an excellent opportunity to influence the future growth, sustainability, and development of the Borough while working on a high-profile planning programme.
The Opportunity
As part of the Planning Policy team, you will support the Planning Policy Manager and lead on key workstreams associated with the production and implementation of the Local Plan.
Local Authority12-Month Contract - Part time 28 hrs a week£60-£62 per HourHybrid Working Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation of planning policy documents and supporting evidence base studies
Drive forward key Local Plan workstreams and strategic planning projects
Manage stakeholder engagement and public consultation exercises
Work closely with Members, Parish Councils, senior officers, developers, and external partners
Provide professional planning policy advice at committees and Council meetings
Manage external consultants and specialist contracts
Support, mentor, and supervise junior planning staff
Contribute to sustainable development, placemaking, and climate strategy objectives
To be successful, you will have:
RTPI Chartered status (or equivalent)
Significant Planning Policy experience within Local Government
Strong knowledge of Local Plan preparation and adoption processes
Experience preparing evidence base documents and planning policy reports
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results to challenging timescales
Previous experience supervising staff and managing consultants
