QualificationsGENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, preventative maintenance, use of common tools, and equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months of specialized experience or training in the following areas: Diagnosing, repairing, and modifying complex vehicles Knowledge of diagnostic equipment Solving complex maintenance and repair problems Evaluating work performed on vehicles, equipment, and systems
Major DutiesAs a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-10, you will: Troubleshoot, perform maintenance, and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment Troubleshoot equipment and diagnose the cause of mechanical failures Remove and disassemble engines Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations Conduct readiness and inspections on vehicles Assist in the maintenance of production reports and recommendations Instruct operator/crew in the maintenance of equipment and provides technical advice and assistance to supported units when requested. Performs other duties as assigned.RequirementsMILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard.
