Job SummaryThe incumbent serves as Carpenter within the Facilities Management Service, engineering Branch at the Orlando VA Health Care System (OVAHCS). Will be responsible for the day-to-day construction, installation, repair, and modification of wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness throughout the main campus and off-site business office for all Outpatient clinics.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Carpenters at this level work in wood shops and at job sites. When working in a shop, they stand for extended periods while operating machines such as bench planers, saws, and drill presses. The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping. When at a job site, strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy band bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, framing members, and other building and construction materials. Carpenters use manual or portable power tools for extended periods in uncomfortable positions. On-site work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops. They may lift and move materials up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds), unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
Major DutiesDuties include, but are not limited to: Demolition and reconstruction of offices, laboratories, clinics and specialty patient areas are included. Construction of one-of-a-kind pieces of casework such as consoles and cabinets. Work from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders and rough sketches. Plan and lay out work to be done, select proper tools, determine materials to be used and accomplish the work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices. Constructs shipping crates, water tight for delicate instruments and equipment. Estimate time and material for all carpenter and related work. Works from oral instructions, blueprints, drawings, work orders, and rough sketches. Resurfaces existing casework including the cutting, shaping, fitting, and installing of plastic laminated and or wood surfaces Work Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM or Sunday to Thursday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM or Monday to Friday 7:00AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM *Note-Exact TOD for this position will be discussed during the interview and may be adjusted to meet the facility/dept needs.
