About this role
L'Arche is looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join them in Togher. The successful candidate will assist staff to support their Day Service (adults with intellectual disabilities) to become independent in basic meal and snack preparation, baking and cooking. To help maintain an orderly and hygienically clean kitchen and dining area, together with safe food preparation and storage while also following infection prevention control and hand washing protocol. Brief job description Food Prep & Equipment Operation Disinfecting surfaces Correct colour coded use of kitchen chopping boards Correct storage of items after use Measuring ingredients, washing produce, carrying out basic batch cooking or recipe steps (with support) Safely using commercial tools e.g., ovens, stovetops, slicers and mixers Food Safety Awareness of food safety and storage, fridge temperature etc., Awareness of allergens Careful washing of any harvested home grown vegetables and salads from the on-site garden Be willing to do HACCP Food Safety Courses Communication Skills Pleasant and patient demeanour Ability to follow instruction Willingness to engage the people we support in conversation and assist them, together with staff, to be as independent as possible in the kitchen Cleaning Assist in cleaning of kitchen after use Assist with deep clean of fridges, cooker, kitchen cupboards and pantry Help to maintain an orderly and hygienically clean kitchen.
