At Equito you ride in small groups, with respect for both rider and horse. Horse riding lessons Dancing with your horse Many people think riding is easy: you sit down and the horse does the rest. In reality it is quite difficult (but also great fun!)). You need balance, a sense of rhythm and coordination. With your hands, legs and posture you give signals to the pony. It takes time to learn this properly. Herd leader You also need to be a good 'herd leader': calm, clear and confident, so that the pony trusts you. As you improve, you learn to train the pony and work together more and more, as if you are dancing together. It often takes about six years to become a truly advanced rider. At Equito we work in small groups (max. 8 riders), grouped by level. Levels Pony Friends You get to know the ponies and learn how to handle them safely. You practise balance, steering at walk and rising trot. This course lasts five weeks. Beginners You learn the basics: walking, trotting, steering and a good position. You play games and eventually also learn to canter. Novice You gain more control over the pony and learn to ride independently. You improve your balance, ride without stirrups and take your first little jumps. Intermediate You ride independently in all gaits and use smaller, more precise aids. You jump several fences and learn lateral work. You can also take part in competitions and hacks. Advanced You work on training the pony and develop your feel as a rider. Among other things, you learn lateral work and jump complete courses. Highly advanced You have a lot of control and can teach a pony new things.
