About this role
Constance Ephelia, a luxurious resort in the Seychelles, is seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Head Sommelier to join our esteemed food and beverage team. In this role, you will work closely with the Head Sommelier to ensure an exceptional wine experience for our discerning guests.
Assist in managing the resort's extensive wine programme, including inventory control and cellar managementCollaborate with the Head Sommelier to curate and update wine lists for multiple restaurants within the resortProvide expert wine recommendations and food pairing suggestions to guestsConduct wine tastings and educational sessions for both guests and staffTrain and mentor junior sommeliers and wine service staffAssist in maintaining relationships with wine suppliers and negotiating purchasesEnsure proper storage and handling of all wines to maintain qualityParticipate in budget planning and cost control measures for the wine programmeStay informed about current wine trends and emerging wine regionsAssist in organising wine-focused events and promotions Advanced certification from a recognised wine education body (e.g., WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers)Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a sommelier in a luxury hotel or fine dining restaurantExtensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and wine-making processesExcellent palate and tasting abilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsProven experience in staff training and mentoringProficiency in inventory management and wine list curationExpertise in food and wine pairingUnderstanding of spirits, cocktails, and other beveragesFamiliarity with international wine markets and trendsExcellent customer service skills with a professional and approachable demeanourBasic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and POS systemsBachelor's degree in Hospitality or related field (preferred)Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidaysFluency in English; additional languages are advantageous WORK WITH CONSTANCE
