We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented Sourcing Engineer to support our engineering and sourcing teams in evaluating manufacturing projects and connecting customer requirements with the right manufacturing capabilities. In this role, you will assess the technical complexity of parts and components, support quotation accuracy, and collaborate with clients, providers, and internal teams to resolve technical questions and ensure successful project execution.
How You’ll Contribute Technical Evaluation & Sourcing
Assess the technical complexity of parts and components to support accurate sourcing and manufacturing evaluations Perform DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis on customer parts and drawings, identifying manufacturability issues (tight tolerances, difficult geometries, material or process constraints) and proposing practical design improvements Review technical requirements, drawings, specifications, and other project documentation to identify key manufacturing considerations Support the sourcing team in identifying suitable manufacturing capabilities and providers for complex parts and projects Assign and maintain appropriate technical tags to ensure accurate categorization of parts and manufacturing requirements
Quotation & Project Support
Review technical content within quotations for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with customer requirements Identify potential technical issues or gaps and work with relevant teams to resolve them Support complex projects and critical deals by providing technical input and manufacturing expertise
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with engineering, sourcing, sales, and other internal teams to support successful project execution Share technical knowledge and best practices with colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement of sourcing processes Support junior team members by providing technical guidance and knowledge when needed
What You’ll Bring to Xometry
Education: Higher technical education, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing environment involving complex products, parts, or components Hands-on Manufacturing Experience: Practical experience with CNC machines (lathe/turning and/or milling) and/or sheet metal forming (cutting, bending, forming, welding) DFM Skills: Experience conducting DFM analysis and giving design feedback to improve manufacturability, cost, and quality Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, injection molding, 3D printing, surface finishing), technical drawings, part specifications, and component complexity Sourcing Experience: Experience working with suppliers, manufacturers, sourcing teams, engineering teams, or technical procurement is preferred Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to discuss technical requirements with clients, providers, and internal stakeholders English: B1-B2 level English proficiency Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and resolve technical challenges Organization: Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering, sourcing, sales, and operations teams Adaptability: Ability to work under pressure, manage changing priorities, and maintain attention to detail
