Roofing and Carpentry Specialist

REPORTS TO: Structural Systems Supervisor, Facilities Management.

STATUS/HOURS/: Full-time, 40 hours/week. Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs. This position is considered *essential personnel.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Staff

Wage Range: $35.50 - 38.00 Based on relevant experience.

Position Purpose

Performs as the primary technician for roofing maintenance; to include maintenance, repair and alterations. Assists in coordinating the daily activities for roofing and carpentry functions.

Job Responsibilities

• Utilize mobile devices and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive, document, and complete work order requests.

• Observing and reporting through the CMMS, defects, deterioration, and wear and tear on the facilities.

• Perform and document annual roof inspections, gutter and roof-drain cleaning, general maintenance, and recommended corrective actions.

• Participate in the development of long-range facilities development plans and programs as they apply to roofing assets.

• Monitor and coordinate outside contractors as directed.

• Assist supervisors and technicians of other shops with campus-wide maintenance.

• Manage inspection, cleaning, and repair of all fireplaces on campus.

• Cut, shape and smooth wooden components using hand and power tools

• Assemble, construct and install and repair structures and fixtures in or on Academy buildings, including floors, walls, partitions, ceilings, molding, window sash, form work, framing, blackboards, bulletin boards, doors and bookcases, furniture, counters and roofs.

• Install and tape drywall, ceiling and floor tiles, flooring and other material for new construction or renovations.

• Install and repair architectural hardware, including hinges, latches, door closures and locks.

• Alter and repair furniture or fixtures such as chairs, desks, cabinets and bookcases.

• Provide training, operate, transport and provide ground support for aerial lift work.

• Set up, adjust and clean carpentry equipment.

• Fabricate metal storm frames for screens and storm windows.

• Assist all trades people in the performance of day-to-day duties and responsibilities when assigned.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

• Must have general knowledge of all phases of building construction, codes, methods, tools, and equipment of the trade including wood materials and their properties, techniques of finishing sheetrock, plastering, and painting: proper glass cutting techniques; and proper wood turning techniques.

• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.

• Possess intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

• Ability to follow verbal and written directions, always maintain a professional demeanor and restraint, including stressful situations.

Position Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in carpentry required with at least two years' roofing.

• Experience in an institutional or campus setting preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and transport up to 50lbs without assistance.

• Must be able to remain on their feet for extended periods of time, climb, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch, and lift.

• Ability to withstand exposure to inclement weather (rain, snow, sleet, freezing temperatures, etc.).

Additional Requirements

• Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).

• Clean Driving record (reviewed annually).

• *Essential personnel are required to report to or remain at work if instructed directly by designated personnel during emergency events or inclement weather.
