The Opportunity: Chemist

Bring your skills to a hands-on laboratory role supporting the testing of depleted uranium, natural uranium, oxides, and other non-ferrous metals. As our Chemist, you will help deliver reliable, traceable results by preparing and analyzing samples, supporting method validation and implementation, maintaining instruments, applying quality controls, and promoting safe laboratory practices. This is an opportunity to solve technical problems, improve laboratory processes, and collaborate with colleagues across engineering and applied uranium technologies.

What you’ll do

• Prepare, interpret, document, and communicate accurate, traceable analytical results.

• Collaborate with the Analytical Chemist and Chemical Engineer to improve or adapt test methods, formulas, and laboratory processes.

• Prepare and safely handle solutions, compounds, reagents, and samples in line with storage, quality, and safety requirements.

• Complete routine and non-routine analyses using appropriate technical equipment and instruments.

• Clean and calibrate instruments, perform basic troubleshooting, and apply contamination controls that keep laboratory operations dependable.

• Communicate priorities, technical issues, and findings clearly across the team.

How you’ll make an impact

• Analytical testing and sample preparation

• Prepare samples, test solutions, compounds, and reagents; conduct routine and non-routine analyses; interpret and report results.

• Utilize laboratory methods and validation

• Support the development, validation, implementation, and improvement of chemical testing methods and protocols.

• Instrument operation and care

• Use appropriate analytical equipment; perform cleaning, calibration, general maintenance, and first-line troubleshooting.

• Quality control and contamination prevention

• Apply quality-control checks and handling practices that help prevent contamination of compounds, samples, and equipment.

• Consistently follow laboratory safety procedures and protocols and help maintain safe lab operations.

• Utilize your problem-solving and judgment skills

• Investigate testing or workflow issues, evaluate information, and make sound decisions within the scope of the role.

• Planning, accuracy, and prioritization

• Organize work, manage competing priorities, multitask when needed, and maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Work cross-functionally, coordinate priorities, solve problems with others, and communicate findings effectively in writing and verbally.

• Use Microsoft 365 applications and collaboration tools to document, communicate, and coordinate work.

What you’ll bring

• Working knowledge of chemistry or a related scientific field, demonstrated through a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

• Demonstrated ability to prepare samples and reagents and perform analytical laboratory work with accuracy.

• Working knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and protocols.

• Ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, take initiative, and work independently when needed.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions.

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and collaboration tools.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting laboratory or quality activities in a metal fabrication environment.

• Familiarity with government contract requirements and compliance.
