Together, we power the future of finance – and this is what #LifeAtBNY is all about. Join us and be part of something extraordinary. We’re seeking a Vice President, Product Designer to join the Design Accelerator, part of our Experience Design Practice. This role is based in New York, NY. The Design Accelerator partners with teams across the bank to understand complex challenges, shape opportunities, and move design work forward. Engagements vary: you may help a team explore a new problem, strengthen an experience already in development, or establish a design direction that a platform team can carry forward. You’ll need to get up to speed quickly, work closely with partners, and turn what you learn into clear, useful design outcomes. In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

• Understand and frame problems. Learn how people work today through research, conversations, data, and observation. Identify underlying needs, constraints, and opportunities before settling on a solution. • Map complex experiences. Create journey maps, workflows, and other useful artifacts that show how people, processes, and systems connect. Help teams see where an experience breaks down and where design can make a difference. • Design and test solutions. Translate insights into thoughtful concepts, interactions, and interfaces for complex digital products. Prototype ideas at the level needed to learn, gain alignment, and support implementation. • Work through ambiguity. Make progress when requirements are evolving. Ask good questions, identify assumptions, and help partners make informed decisions about what to explore or build next. • Collaborate across disciplines. Partner with product, engineering, research, business, and operations colleagues to balance user needs, business priorities, and technical realities. • Communicate your thinking. Explain the problem you’re solving, the choices you’ve made, and what you’ve learned in a way that helps stakeholders understand and act on the work. • Contribute to lasting design quality. Use and strengthen shared patterns where appropriate, incorporate feedback, and leave teams with a clear path to continue the work. The ideal candidate will bring:

• Experience designing digital products or services with complex workflows, multiple user needs, or interconnected systems. • Curiosity about AI and a working understanding of where it can help in the design process, along with the judgment to review its output and apply it responsibly. • Strong interaction and visual design skills, with the judgment to choose the right level of detail for each stage of the work. • The ability to conduct or partner on discovery, synthesize what you learn, and turn it into a clear design direction. • Experience creating end-to-end journey maps and translating them into practical opportunities and solutions. • A collaborative working style and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback. A portfolio or examples of relevant work are required. We’re interested in how you approached the problem, worked with others, made design decisions, and learned from the outcome. Typically, candidates will have five or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent expertise demonstrated through their work.
