About this role
The Neurodiagnostic Technician, under general supervision, will perform electroencephalogram (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and Autonomic testing (Sweat resting, Heart rate response to Deep Breathing/ HR, BP response to Valsalva and assist with EMG and tilt table testing) using proper techniques for placing and attaching the electrodes and for positioning the patient.
• Performs accurate EEG recordings of NCV testing; perform visual evoked potential (VEP testing; Performs brain-stem auditory evoked response (BAER); performs somatosensory evoked potential (SEP); perform electroencephalogram (EEG) testing in an ambulatory setting. Adapts methods for instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on patient history, clinical observations, and test findings. • Ensure all ordered procedures are completed in an organized, efficient manner. • Interprets wave characteristics accurately during each test to detect evidence of brain disorders or nerve disorders and provides interpretations to the Neurologist/provider timely. • Monitors and records patient's reaction to specific activities such as breathing direction or the introdcution of various stimuli, in a thorough and accurate manager. • Work with the scope of the American Society of EEG Technology guidelines while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. • Operates and stores EEG equipment, take pertinent patient history and integrates all aspects of care for all age ranges including neonate, infact, child and adolescents (adult/geriatrics when necessary) • Cleans and maintains equipment in good operating condition. Performs minor maintenance and repair lab equipment as needed and promptly reports major repairs to site manager • Performs Nerve conduction studies and Autonomic testing (Sweat resting, Heart rate response to Deep Breathing/ HR and BP response to Valsalva). • Assists physicians with electromyography (EMG) by attaching electrodes to patients and assists provider with Tilt table testing. • Reviews patients' medical charts and explains procedures to patients and/or families. • May perform general maintenance on (EMG/NCS and Autonomic testing) equipment to include calibration and adjustments. • Maintains inventory and supplies for EMG/NCS and Autonomic testing. • Works collaboratively with providers, team and customers. • Performs all other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates the ability to support the mission, vision and patient promise throughout all interactions the UT Health Way. • Demonstrates analytical thinking; requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner. • Demonstrates knowledge to efficiently manage the EEG, nerve conduction study and autonomic testing schedule and prioritize workload. • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally. • Demonstrates the ability to participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient the UT Health Way. • Knowledge of EPIC software and ability to schedule EEG patient studies as needed.
