Job Overview:
McDermott is seeking an entry-level Instrumentation Engineer with a bachelor's or master's degree in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering or related discipline. Relevant experience of up to one year, including internships, cooperative education assignments, undergraduate research, or industry experience, is beneficial but not required.
The Engineer should have a growth mindset and commitment to learning, be observant, willing to assist when called upon, and eager to engage with peers as they develop their career at McDermott. As a member of a project team, the Engineer will support project execution by completing assigned tasks under supervision while building technical knowledge through collaboration, coaching, and hands-on project experience.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Duties may include reviewing Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs); creating instrument indexes, creating instrument datasheets, assisting with instrument purchasing activities, reviewing instrument supplier documents, creating motor control schematics, and creating vessel level sketches. • Other duties may include support to automation (control system) engineers such as review or development of I/O lists, alarm lists, and cause & effect charts for safety logic. • Learn how to use Hexagon Smart Instrumentation or, depending on project requirements, AVEVA Instrumentation for the development of instrument indexes and instrument datasheets. • Interface with other disciplines (e.g., Process, Mechanical), instrument suppliers, and clients as needed for completion of work. • Willing to travel to supplier fabrication sites or project plant sites to gain hands-on experience. • Raising concerns and making suggestions for improvement (and possibly participating in implementing improvement ideas).
Essential Qualifications and Education:
• 0-1 years of experience. • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in an Instrumentation and Controls Engineering related field. • General understanding of field instrumentation and their purpose. • Strong analytical and mathematic skills. • Good written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent time management and professionalism. • Experience with using MS Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel). • A growth mindset and willingness to learn and accept improvement feedback. • Eligible to work in the United States (citizen or green-card holder). #LI-CA1 #LI-DNI
