Job Summary The Senior Indirect Tax Manager leads Verano's indirect tax strategy and function across the Company's vertically integrated multi-state cannabis operations, including cultivation, manufacturing, and retail. This role owns indirect tax planning, refund and recovery opportunities, tax technology and automation, and assessment of indirect and cannabis-specific tax risk as Verano enters new markets. The Senior Indirect Tax Manager manages and mentors indirect tax staff and serves as the primary indirect tax advisor on acquisitions, new state launches, and complex audits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead and oversee Verano's multi-state indirect tax function, including sales and use tax, excise tax, cannabis cultivation/production tax, and retail cannabis tax compliance, planning, and audit defense Own indirect tax planning strategies to minimize exposure and identify refund and overpayment recovery opportunities across current operating states Serve as the primary indirect tax advisor on new market entry, licensing, and acquisition due diligence, assessing indirect and cannabis-specific tax exposure ahead of expansion Monitor and interpret evolving state and local cannabis tax legislation and regulatory change, advising leadership on business impact Oversee resolution of complex state and local indirect tax audits, notices, and controversy matters, including relationships with external advisors and taxing authorities Establish and maintain indirect tax policies, procedures, and internal controls, including SOX considerations where applicable Partner with Legal, Government Affairs, and Retail Operations on the tax implications of new state legalization, licensing, and regulatory changes Support M&A due diligence and post-acquisition tax integration for newly acquired entities and licenses Review and approve indirect tax account reconciliations and support the monthly and quarterly close process Review, and submit personal property tax filings, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and support for supporting documentation and jurisdictional requirements Provide executive-level reporting on indirect tax risk, compliance status, and planning initiatives Manage, mentor, and develop indirect tax staff Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field 8+ years of progressive indirect tax experience, including multi-state compliance within a complex, multi-entity organization 3+ years of people leadership or team management experience Strong technical knowledge of state and local sales and use tax, excise tax, and other transaction-based tax laws Experience managing tax technology implementations and ERP/POS integrations Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth environment Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including comfort presenting to senior leadership Preferred Qualifications Experience in cannabis or another highly regulated, multi-state industry CPA or MST Big 4 or large corporate tax department background Experience supporting M&A due diligence and new-market tax planning Experience with CCH, Vertex, ONESOURCE, or similar indirect tax engines What We Offer Verano Base Pay Range $145,000 - $180,000 + Bonus Actual pay is based on experience, qualifications, and location of the role. Roles may be eligible for annual bonus program based on individual and company performance.
