Job summary
The postholder will support the Trust's clinical areas by delivering and collecting medical devices and ensuring they are cleaned, checked, and fit for use. In addition to equipment logistics, the postholder will assist Clinical Engineering staff in carrying out preventative maintenance on low-risk medical devices and undertake basic repairs and servicing under supervision. This developmental role is designed to provide training and practical experience in medical equipment maintenance and supports career progression into technical or clinical engineering roles. The postholder will work with digital asset management systems such as e-Quip and RFID and contribute to service quality by supporting audits, equipment performance monitoring, and improvement initiatives.
Main duties of the job
Supporting the daily operations of the Equipment Library loan service, ensuring efficient coordination.
Ensure timely delivery and collection of medical devices across clinical areas to support patient care.
Perform cleaning and basic maintenance of returned equipment in compliance with Infection Control and Health & Safety policies.
Support Clinical Engineering in tracking, maintaining, and servicing medical devices to ensure optimal performance.
Collaborate with the Clinical Engineering Department to ensure that equipment meets clinical standards and requirements.
Perform routine safety checks and functional tests on medical devices to verify they are ready for use.
Maintain accurate records of all equipment serviced, including repair histories and usage data.
Assist in the assessment of equipment for potential upgrades, replacements, or decommissioning.
Support training of staff on the correct usage and care of medical equipment, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and protocols.
Utilize RFID and e-Quip systems to accurately track equipment locations and update maintenance records.
Maintain a consistent 2-week turnaround for medical equipment by accurately updating records in the e-Quip database.

Job description Job responsibilities
Due to the operational nature of the Clinical Engineering and Equipment Library services, postholders are required to work on-site on a full-time basis to ensure effective day-to-day service delivery and a timely response to clinical needs. Working patterns will be agreed in accordance with the needs of the service and the organisational structure. Where applicable, staff may also be expected to participate in an on-call rota, under the supervision of the Equipment Library Manager or a Clinical Engineer, traveling to various clinics across Richmond and Hounslow to support out-of-hours service continuity.
As the Equipment Library service operates on Saturdays, postholders will work on a rota basis, which includes participating in a rotating schedule to provide Saturday cover as required by the service.

Qualifications Essential
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in business Administration and /or equivalent experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritise workload and work independently. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
