About this role

Job summary We are looking for a hardworking, dedicated Staff Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team on David Beevers Day Unit Ward which is based at St James University Hospital. As part of the Theatre and Anaesthesia CSU, we strive to provide high quality, patient centred care for pre and post-surgical patients.

As a registered Nurse on David Beevers Day unit, you will be expected to care for pre and post-surgical patients ensuring that they are admitted and discharged in a timely, and safe manner to aid to the smooth running of our Nurse Led Unit. David Beevers Day Unit also has the capacity to care for overnight patients from SAU and patients who are appropriate to come to us from inpatient wards. Working a mixture of week days, Saturdays, twilight and night shifts, you will care for a wide range of patients whilst supporting and acting as a role model for junior members of the team including students and T Level Students.

All applicants are required to have current UK NMC registration, with evidence of registrant clinical practice in the UK, or be a final-year nursing student studying in the UK.

Main duties of the job

The role is to provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care. You will deliver care without supervision and take responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of patients and at all times promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate patient care. The role will involve taking charge of the ward or department as necessary in the absence of the sister or Charge Nurse.

You will participate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners and students as well as maintaining your personal development.

The jobholder will work within an environment of adult patients on the David Beevers Day unit, caring for both pre and post-surgical patients ensuring that they are admitted and discharged in a timely, and safe manner to aid to the smooth running of the Nurse Led Unit. David Beevers Day Unit also has the capacity to care for overnight patients from SAU and patients who are appropriate to come from inpatient wards.

The jobholder will work within an environment caring for adult patients on a Day Surgery Unit which has overnight bed capacity Monday to Saturday.

Qualifications - Essential Criteria

Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or 2)

Has current registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register.

Willing to undergo training as necessary
