Are you an exceptional CYP nurse ready to shape the future of high-intensity care? We are seeking a dynamic, ambitious and highly experienced CYP PICU/LSU Pathway Nurse Consultant to provide expert clinical leadership across the East of England Provider Collaborative (EoEPC). Working alongside senior leaders, nurses, case managers and people who use our services, you will help turn our shared ambitions for CYPMH services into lasting change.
This is a high-profile opportunity to transform how care is commissioned and delivered for children and young people with complex needs and increased risk. You will bring a wealth of advanced clinical experience in CYP and PICU nursing, combining authoritative practice, sound professional judgement and the credibility to influence across organisational boundaries.
As the first postholder in this newly created role, you will have the freedom and influence to set the standard. We are looking for a nurse consultant with clear evidence of clinical innovation, research engagement and translating evidence into measurable service improvement. You will lead transformation, strengthen nursing practice and demonstrate the impact that expert nursing leadership can achieve across the High-Intensity Pathway.
Main duties of the job
The postholder willlead on the operation and development of the CYPMH PICU Advisory service, working alongside the collaboratives single point of access (Patient Flow Hub) and the clinical lead. They will be a senior member of the Patient Flow Team, responsible for the gatekeeping of referrals across East of England.
During Phase 1 of the pathway development the NC role will focus upon referrals where a GAU or a community referrer is requesting higher level of security or intervention for CYP. In phase 2, the NC will join the project team in developing and implementing the new PICU -LSU model in EoE. This project aims to reduce the escalation to the LSU pathway and implement an enhanced therapeutic inpatient model.
Working collaboratively with providers and other stakeholders, the postholder will support the on-going development, implementation, and monitoring of the CYPMHS High Intensity provision, offering consultation, training, and support for clinicians with the management of complex presentations, primarily within GAU Tier 4 settings. There may be occasions which require work outside of these settings, such as acute hospitals and within local communities where a PICU referral is made directly for CYP. The post holder will provide specialist clinical knowledge and advice to the Transformation and Commissioning Team (TACT) on all aspects of CYPMHS PICU development, clinical governance, quality and service improvement initiatives.

To provide strategic nursing input at senior level and to ensure effective advice to theCollaborative and other management team members, to provide effective, user focusedChildren and Young Peoples mental health services and a high standard of nursing care throughout the service.
To work in close collaboration with other senior members of the collaborative, and externalagencies, contributing to the planning and delivery of high-quality service with regards to the development of CYPMH inpatient and community services.
To develop nurse-led initiatives regarding care programmes, which incorporate the postholders higher level of practice, advancing nursing practice and opportunities for patientstreatment, intervention and mental health and physical care needs providing specialistnursing advice and input.
To be able to participate in national workstreams for the development of CYPMHS PICU services and CYPMHS PICU initiatives.
To be able to participate in workstreams for the development of CYPMHS low secure services alternatives within EoEPC services.
The core functions of the role are based on the DH (1999) and DHNI (2018) four functions/main areas for Consultant Nurse practice: expert practice; professional leadership and consultancy; education and development; and practice and service development linked to research and evaluation.

Qualifications Essential

higher Degree in a Nursing Qualification, preferably to Doctorate level advanced clinical practice skills

Extensive experience leading innovation and best nursing practice in CYPMH within the context of a multidisciplinary environment and across complex systems. including CYP/LD HDU/PICU experience Extensive and broad range of NHS work with significant seniority within profession.
