This position is for an experienced Occupational Therapist within our well established Care of the Elderly Occupational Therapy team. The team covers all aspects of care for the elderly with patients with a variety of co-morbidities, social and environmental challenges. The Occupational Therapist will support individuals to achieve their goals in self-care, productivity and leisure. Liaising and offering advice to the individual and their carers in conjunction with the relevant community staff.

Working on our Older Person's Unit will allow you to develop your skills in complex discharge planning, expand on your knowledge and expertise of large equipment provision, especially around complex moving and handling. It also promotes your skills in onward referrals and signposting to other services.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 Occupational Therapist you will work within an Occupational Therapy team comprising of two junior band 5s, two other band 6 Occupational Therapists and a highly specialist Occupational Therapist under the lead of an experienced band 7 Team Lead. The team work closely with the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team and have an excellent, well-respected working relationship with Consultants, Nurses, Physios, Social Care Team and Case Managers.

Working as a valued member of the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team your role will include assessment and treatment of patients, prevention of de-conditioning, facilitation of timely and effective patient discharge, and on-going referrals to other agencies. You will also take on the responsibility of supervising band 5s. As the opportunity arises, you will be expected to take on the supervision and education of Occupational Therapy Students on placement. The post holder assists in the development, administration and provision of a specialist Occupational Therapy service; carries a varied caseload of patients. Managing complex assessment, with predominantly physical conditions and with regard to the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual and social aspects of their care.

Directly responsible for the management of own caseload of patients with diverse presentation and complex physical and psychological conditions, referred for Occupational Therapy assessment, rehabilitation, treatment planning and discharge management.

Assists in the management of the specialist team providing, developing and planning an Occupational Therapy service to patients for this client group. The post holder will act as a source of expertise, demonstrating and maintaining knowledge, skills and experience in this specialist role.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Diploma/degree in OT by recognised awarding body e.g. Royal College of Occupational therapists. Must satisfy the criteria for full membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Further qualifications/study Driving licence (and use of own car for work purposes)

Desirable

An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT/PT degree students
