NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Specialist Estate Services (NWSSP-SES) based in Cardiff is an organisation committed to championing modern, sustainable high quality healthcare environments. We achieve this by providing professional and technical estates related advice and support to the NHS in Wales and the Department for Health and Social Care at the Welsh Government (WG).
In this role you will provide advice and support to NHS Wales and WG on all matters associated with healthcare building services mechanical engineering systems.
To meet this challenge, you will need to be a Chartered Engineer registered with a mechanical or building services institution, with senior level experience in mechanical building services engineering.
Your high level of IT literacy must be complemented by good communication, team-working and presentation skills. The post will be based in Cardiff or alternative NWSSP office (to be agreed). Travel across the Principality will be required.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Performance Standards Engineer (Water) is the principal source of advice and guidance for the NHS in Wales on water systems, providing expert specialist and professional advice within this field.
A core duty of the Senior Performance Standards Engineer (Water) is to discharge the duties of the Authorising Engineer (Water) as defined in Welsh Health Technical Memorandum (WHTM) 04-01 and 00, for the NHS in Wales. This is an independent position accepting professional responsibility for the assessment of Responsible Persons (Water) at each Health Board (HB) and Trust.
In addition the Senior Performance Standards Engineer (Water) will provide advice, guidance and support on a broad range of specialist hospital mechanical engineering issues and conduct technical investigations when required into engineering systems for the NHS in Wales.
As Authorising Engineer (Water) the Senior Performance Standards Engineer (Water) develops mechanical engineering related policies and strategies on an all Wales basis and gives advice and guidance to NHS Wales Health Boards and Trusts for the development of local policies and strategies.

Qualifications Essential
Bachelors degree with honours in engineering or technology. Be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) in an appropriate discipline or have sufficient engineering knowledge, experience and understanding equivalent to Master of Engineering (MEng) in order to register at CEng level in line with Engineering Council UK (ECUK). Is required to have extensive technical knowledge of specialist mechanical engineering including standards and guidance.

Experience Essential
Must have sufficient knowledge and experience working at a senior level in complex engineering and control systems including water safety to be credible as the as the Authorising Engineer (Water) and to provide authoritative advice to managed staff.

Experience of working for the NHS on healthcare engineering systems.
Skills and Attributes Essential
A thorough understanding of highly complex mechanical engineering and domestic water systems. The ability to co-ordinate the activity of a team High levels of IT/Computer skills
