About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and committed Occupational Therapist to join our unique and vibrant Therapy Team at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead.

We are seeking a highly skilled Band 7 Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist to provide clinical leadership and operational management across our two elderly care wards. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for elderly care, frailty and complex discharge planning to further develop their leadership and service development skills within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will manage a complex clinical caseload, providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention for patients with complex physical, cognitive and social needs. You will play a key role in service development, preventing deconditioning in frail older adults, promoting falls prevention, and improving patient outcomes. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate safe, timely and person-centred discharges, ensuring patients leave hospital with the appropriate support while maintaining effective patient flow across acute services.

The Therapies team at the Royal Free is innovative, creative and truly inter-disciplinary, focused on delivering high quality, patient centred care. Our team is friendly and supportive with a strong emphasis on supportive supervision, an active learning environment and a focus on staff welfare and teamwork using the "What matters to you?" framework.

You will need relevant clinical post registration experience of delivering Occupational Therapy in complex assessment and treatment intervention within the acute hospital setting, and state registration through the Health Care Professions Council. This position also requires excellent communication skills and extensive experience working within an inter-disciplinary team and interagency collaboration.

Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy Current HCPC Registration as an Occupational Therapist Evidence of relevant post-registration specialist training

Experience Essential

Substantial post-registration experience as an Occupational Therapist including acute inpatient practice Significant experience working with older adults with complex physical, cognitive and psychosocial needs Experience of complex discharge planning and multidisciplinary working Experience of supervising staff and/or students

Skills Essential

Advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in the management of complex patients Ability to undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and develop treatment plans independently Knowledge of frailty, dementia, delirium and rehabilitation principles within elderly care Ability to assess, recommend and prescribe equipment and adaptations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams Ability to prioritise workload effectively and work autonomously Knowledge of clinical governance, audit and evidence-based practice
