About this role

Job summary

We are looking for Support Worker to join the Crisis House team based in Exeter.

The role is dynamic and challenging. The role will provide direct therapeutic engagement to services users in crisis, supporting them in a co-constructed manner, to move away from the crisis point and focus on desired future goals and solution building.

We will support you to learn the skills you need to thrive in the role. We will offer you the training and development support you need to begin a fulfilling career. In return, you will need to be motivated, flexible and eager to learn.

This service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and therefore requires participation in a rota-based shift working arrangement.

Main duties of the job

The support worker will have experience in supporting people with mental health difficulties.

The support worker will be able to support service users with emotional, social, physical and domestic needs. The support worker will be skilled in engaging both service users and stakeholders and have a good understanding of the needs and diversity of those you will be supporting.

The support worker will assist in the day to day running of the Crisis House environment and will ensure that all service users maintain their activities of daily living.

As part of the Crisis House Team, the support worker will develop strong links with carers and other networks to support the service user to develop a co-produced management plan that allows them to contain their current crisis and build on existing skills and community links to further support their future management and wellbeing.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Skills Essential

Demonstrate an ability to make and sustain professional therapeutic relationships Demonstrate an ability and awareness to maintain personal boundaries Good communication and listening skills Ability to work with people in a group and individual basis Able to work in a team effectively

Qualifications Essential

NVQ level 3, QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification. If equivalent qualification is not already obtained, to complete QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care within 12 months of commencing employment. Other evidence of training or development relevant to working within mental health settings.

Experience Essential

Previous employment / experience of working with people in a caring situation or previous experience working in a different role within mental health services Previous care experience with people who have Mental Health difficulties. Knowledge of mental health and a basic understanding of physical health presentations. Awareness of safeguarding principles
