Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Dispenser to join our dispensary team at Empingham Medical Centre.

We are a growing 9000+ patient GMS practice with full compliment of practice staff including clinical pharmacists.

We are members of the Rutland Health PCN.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the accurate and efficient dispensing of prescriptions, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards. Duties include processing prescriptions, preparing and labelling medicines, managing stock levels, providing excellent customer service, and supporting patients with medication queries. Working closely with prescribers, and the wider healthcare team to ensure the safe and effective supply of medicines.Key skills: Attention to detail, accuracy, good communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and a commitment to patient care.

About us

Empingham Medical Centre is situated in the village of Empingham, on the edge of Rutland Water in the heart of the picturesque county of Rutland. We provide GP and Nurse appointments and are a dispensing practice.

The practice area covers 120square miles in the villages surrounding Rutland Water. We are members of the Leicester Leicestershire and Rutland integrated health board (LLRICB).

We area popular practice , rated highly in local and national patient satisfaction surveys. We were rated GOOD in all areas of our CQC inspection.

The practice is part of the Jubilee Academy and is actively involved in teaching 3rd & 5th Year medical students from Leicester medical school. We are also involved in a range of research studies through the East midlands clinical research network

Job description Job responsibilities

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesDispense acute and repeat prescriptions accurately and efficiently.Process prescription requests received electronically, by telephone, email and in person.Update patient medication records as directed by clinicians.Refer prescribing queries to the appropriate GP for authorisation.Undertake dispensing checks in accordance with practice procedures.Prepare and issue monitored dosage systems (dosette boxes) where required.Assist with organising medication deliveries for housebound patients.Hand out prescriptions and collect prescription charges where applicable.Generate, sort and endorse prescriptions as required.Order medicines and dispensary stock from approved suppliers.Receive and check deliveries, reporting any discrepancies.Maintain stock levels through effective stock rotation and date checking.Ensure medicines are stored safely and appropriately.Participate in controlled drug stock checks and disposal of returned medicines.Work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to their review and development.Maintain accurate electronic records using the practice clinical system.Attend training and team meetings as required.Provide cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave and sickness where possible.

Essential Criteria

NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing Services (or equivalent recognised dispensing qualification).Previous experience working in a dispensary, pharmacy, or dispensing GP practice.Good understanding of dispensing procedures and medicines management.Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.Good communication and customer service skills.Ability to work effectively as part of a team.Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.Basic IT skills and ability to use clinical computer systems.Understanding of patient confidentiality, data protection, and information governance requirements.Commitment to providing high standards of patient care and service.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing Services (or equivalent recognised dispensing qualification). Previous experience working in a dispensary, pharmacy, or dispensing GP practice. Good understanding of dispensing procedures and medicines management. Experience using SystmOne clinical software. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Good communication and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload. Basic IT skills and ability to use clinical computer systems. Understanding of patient confidentiality, data protection, and information governance requirements. Commitment to providing high standards of patient care and service.

Desirable

Experience preparing monitored dosage systems (MDS). Knowledge of NHS prescription regulations and exemption criteria. Understanding of stock control and medicines ordering processes. Experience working within a busy dispensing practice.

Experience Essential

NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent
