Job summary
The post holder will provide specialist medical input within the Gender Dysphoria Service, undertaking comprehensive assessments, supporting treatment planning, advising on hormone therapy, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues. The role involves outpatient clinics, clinical governance activities, service development, and liaison with primary and secondary care providers.
Main duties of the job
Provide specialist medical assessment, diagnosis, and formulation for patients experiencing gender dysphoria or gender incongruence. Develop and implement individualised, patient-centred care plans. Assess suitability for gender-affirming medical interventions in accordance with current national and international guidance. Provide advice regarding hormone therapy initiation, optimisation, monitoring, and management of associated health risks. Collaborate with primary care clinicians to ensure safe prescribing and ongoing monitoring arrangements. Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, psychiatrists, specialist nurses, speech and language therapists, and other allied health professionals. Liaise with external healthcare providers regarding treatment recommendations and ongoing patient care. Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement projects, and service development initiatives. Maintain accurate clinical records and complete all associated administrative duties. Contribute to teaching, training, and professional development activities within the service. Support the development of inclusive and equitable healthcare for transgender and gender-diverse individuals.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent medical qualification. Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification in Endocrinology, General Practice, Sexual Health, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine or related speciality Membership of Fellowship of a Royal College
Experience Essential
Experience working within NHS healthcare settings Experience conducting independent clinical assessments and formulating management plans Experience managing patients with complex physical and/or psychological healthcare needs Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable
Experience working with transgender and gender-diverse patients Experience in endocrinology, hormone replacement therapy, menopause care, sexual health or reporductive medicine Experience in quality improvement, audit, service development or clinical governance acitvities
Knowledge and Skills Essential
Understanding of evidence-based medical practice Knowledge of clinical governance, patient safety, and risk management principles Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to engage sensitively with diverse patient populations Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion principles
