Band 5 Critical Care Assessment Centre and interview day on Tuesday 3rd November 2026 for a Start date Monday 22nd February 2027 for our Band 5 Foundation Course. We do not offer individual or on-line interviews
Staff Nurse Band 5: To provide excellent nursing care by developing skills for Cardiothoracic Intensive Care (CTICU):
Fast paced 21 bedded tertiary referral unit cares for both emergency and elective patients from a broad range of specialties including cardio thoracic surgery, cardiology, vascular surgery and chest trauma. Seasonally we provide advanced respiratory care to medical patients requiring isolation. This spacious, modern unit promotes evidence based practice and prides itself on excellent inter professional collaboration.

A/L may be limited during your first three months as 100% attendance on the Foundation Course is mandatory. A/L not given when there are study days. Please note this ad is for Cardiothoracic critical care only
You must have a strong desire to care for critically ill patients. We provide a three month supportive educational programme Foundations of Critical Care Nursing Course (FCCNC) at the beginning of your employment, to facilitate your development and clinical skills competency within intensive care.
Once completed there is the opportunity to undertake the University based Critical Care Course (Intensive Care), and to rotate to one or both of the other adult units, GICU and NICU. ED and Paediatric or Neonatal ICU or Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) to further develop your practice.
You must have a minimum of one year's current, active nursing experience as a qualified registered nurse working in an acute care ward or department within our Trust or preferably within the NHS. We do not take nurses as a first job from qualification and you will not be shortlisted if you apply.

The Assessment centre involves a written test and communication exercise, followed by an interview for those who pass the written element.

Qualifications and Training Essential
Registered Nurse (adult) 6 months -1 year current post-registration acute care experience

Undergraduate degree Masters level study
Experience Essential
Prioritise and organise own workload and the workload of other more junior staff. Ability to use resources effectively Recognise changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately
