Job summary
To provide ongoing support to the Trust to ensure the statutory and mandatory manual handling training needs of all levels of staff are met in line with NHSLA Risk Management Standards assuring compliance with relevant legislation and Trust policies.
To support the Lead Manual Handling Advisor and the Manual Handling Team in the implementation, monitoring and audit of the Safer Handling Policy to reduce the incidence of work-related musculoskeletal injuries/disorders.
The post holder will be required to carry out various administrative duties pertaining to the overall running of the Manual Handling Team.
Main duties of the job
Deliver induction and refresher manual handling training to staff at all levels, in line with Trust policies and training needs. Support the Lead Manual Handling Advisor in delivering, evaluating and improving training programmes and quality assurance, including attendance records, outcome monitoring and audits.
Assist managers with manual handling and Display Screen Equipment (DSE) risk assessments, providing advice on safer handling practices. Maintain accurate assessment records using Trust documentation, ensuring confidentiality. Communicate findings to managers and escalate complex cases to the appropriate advisor.
Support investigations into workplace accidents and injuries involving manual handling. Promote evidence-based, peer-reviewed techniques that improve patient outcomes and staff safety, acting as a role model for best practice. Comply with Trust guidelines and policies, respond to telephone and email enquiries from staff at all levels, and work collaboratively with Occupational Health and Wellbeing Services to support and deliver health promotion programmes.

Person Specification
Knowledge Essential
Sound understanding of health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, and Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Desirable
A recognized qualification in adult education, such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or PTLLS equivalent.
Experience Essential
Recent, practical experience in acute or community healthcare settings involving a full range of patient moving and handling techniques.
Desirable
Expert knowledge of specialized NHS moving and handling equipment, including hoists, sliding aids, and electric profiling beds.
