Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and caring Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join our Main Theatres team at St Mary's Hospital. The postholder will work as part of the multidisciplinary theatre team, supporting registered practitioners in providing safe, effective and compassionate care to patients throughout their perioperative journey.
The role includes preparing the theatre environment and equipment, assisting with patient transfers and positioning, maintaining stock levels, supporting infection prevention and cleanliness standards, and undertaking delegated clinical duties within the limits of competence and training. The postholder will also help ensure that theatre areas remain safe, organised and ready for both planned and emergency procedures.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, a caring and professional approach, and the ability to work effectively in a busy and demanding environment. Previous healthcare experience is desirable. The role requires flexibility to work across a range of shifts, including weekends and nights, according to service needs.
We are recruiting for one permeant position and one fixed term position.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will support registered theatre practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, effective and compassionate perioperative care. The main duties include preparing the theatre environment and equipment, supporting patients before, during and after surgery, and assisting with their safe transfer and positioning. The role also involves maintaining cleanliness and infection prevention standards, replenishing stock, checking equipment and reporting any shortages, defects or safety concerns. The postholder will undertake delegated clinical and non-clinical duties within their level of competence, maintain patient dignity and confidentiality, and communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. The postholder will be expected to work flexibly across Main Theatres and participate in the required shift pattern, including nights, weekends and bank holidays, according to service needs.
