Are you passionate about supporting children and families in a healthcare environment? We are looking for a caring, motivated and skilled Nursery Nurse to join our dynamic Children's Outpatients team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the experience of children and their families attending hospital appointments for assessments and investigations.
Main duties of the job
As a Nursery Nurse in Children's Outpatients, you will work alongside nurses, doctors and allied health professionals to support the care, comfort and emotional wellbeing of children aged 0-16. You will help create a welcoming, safe, and child centred environment, using play, distraction and developmental support to reduce anxiety and improve the overall patient experience.

Job description Job responsibilities
Under the direction of a qualified nurse will demonstrate competent clinical practice daily within the boundaries of Nursery Nurse Qualifications.
Has an awareness of the psychological, social, physical and cultural needs of children and their families with guidance from trained staff
Has awareness of the psychological upset caused by hospitalisation and aware of distraction strategies that can be used
Provides support to other areas within the hospital setting, where children attend, eg medical photography or radiology departments
Under supervision carries out allocated duties.
Takes part in discussions within the nursing team relating to patient care.
Can recognise own limitations to practice guided by the competency framework associated with their role in collaboration with Trust Policies and Procedures.
Has the physical skills needed to carry out their duties after completion of competencies.
Is present for medical procedures that require nursery nurse support
Contributes towards Health Promotion boards and leads on specific projects.
Will maintain high standards of care supported by appropriate training.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training Essential
Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Early Years/Education (or equivalent) Continuous professional development in childcare or health related areas
Desirable
Training in behaviour management or special educational needs
Knowledge & Skills Essential
Excellent communication skills with children, families and staff Demonstrates a good understanding of child development and EYFS principles Demonstrates a good understanding of safeguarding principles Has good organisational skills and be able to prioritise tasks in a busy environment Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
Desirable
Understanding of inclusive practice and strategies for supporting children with SEND Experience of working with children with additional health or learning needs
Experience Essential
Recent working with children and young people Has been involved with implementing EYFS framework
Desirable
Demonstrates being able to support children with development or medical needs Has experience of communicating with other professionals
