About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a suitably experienced and motivated Management Accountant to join our successful team within the award winning, Financial Management function at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

The role is a key part of our finance team providing financial support and guidance to the organisation and supporting the financial strategy of the department. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about what they do in order to support delivering the best care for patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work within a smaller team of 5 people, providing comprehensive financial management and business advice service to Clinical Care Group encompassing:

1. Budgetary control

2. Financial advice and support

3. Monthly reporting

Job description Job responsibilities

To prepare / distribute monthly clinical care groups / corporates financial reports with the support of the Senior Management Accountant.

To input into the Oracle Financial Management System (I.e. Journals, budgets and data from feeder systems (Payroll/Stock/Debtors/Creditors)

To provide information and support to allow identification and interpretation of variances from budget. Assisting the provision of monthly commentaries on the key financial issues for the Senior Management Accountant to ensure any trends are identified.

Assists the Senior Management Accountant / Associate Care Group / Deputy Corporate Accountant in the preparation of annual budgets, ensuring that budgets reflect service requirements.

Represent the department at internal finance discussions with the support of more senior finance staff as required with senior grade Healthcare Professionals to collect/clarify financial information.

Helps ensure all Income is accurately identified and invoices are raised in a timely manner.

Liaise with Financial Services to ensure all income and expenditure is correctly coded.

Maintaining the control and accuracy of budgets as directed by the Senior Management Accountant / Associate Care Group / Deputy Corporate Accountant ensuring that budgetary controls are reconciled and balanced off on a monthly basis.

To provide ad-hoc costing information as requested by budget managers

Contribute to and support the development and improvement of financial procedures to drive efficiency and quality.

To work as part of the overall financial management department and to develop close working relationships with other Accountants.

To develop effective working relationships, providing advice and answering financial queries for key personal of various levels of seniority working within the Trust.

Assist in the production of working papers where required to the Trusts statutory annual accounts.

To ensure that departmental standards and agreed deadlines are met.

To deputise for the Senior Management Accountant as required.

To perform any other duties as may be delegated from time to time.

Experience Essential

Experience within a finance function.

Desirable

Experience of working within NHS finance.

Special Skills & Knowledge Essential

The ability to provide and receive complex financial information to/from financial and non-financial staff orally, in writing or electronically in a professional manner. Good computer skills with experience of the Microsoft Office particularly Excel and Word. The ability to input into and interrogate the Finance General Ledger to obtain standard and ad hoc reports. Has the ability to quickly learn new skills and tasks as and when required. Ability to work to all routine and ad hoc deadlines. Ability to identify and act to remedy circumstances that mean a deadline is at risk. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Able to provide training, advise and review the work of more junior team members. Must have good analytical skills. Possesses basic organisational skills.

Desirable

Has an appreciation of the NHS finance regime. Experience of Oracle Finance Ledger system.

Qualifications Essential

Minimum of 5 GCSEs / O Levels (A* - C) including Maths and English. Demonstrates a track record of academic achievement or has experience of working within a finance function.

Desirable

Experience of working within an NHS finance function. Studying towards a professional accountancy qualification.
