Advanced Practice Provider - Surgery Department

Job Description: Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data-gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Required Experience: Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Preferred Experience: • Experience supporting acute care surgery, trauma, general surgery, or other hospital-based surgical services. • Experience performing clinical procedures such as suturing, wound care, injections, and other therapeutic interventions. • Experience participating in clinical education, precepting, or collaborative learning environments with students, residents, or healthcare professionals.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities: • Provide patient care services under the supervision of the Physician and/or Medical Director. • Obtain and document detailed patient medical histories. • Conduct patient assessments and physical examinations, documenting findings and relevant clinical information. • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including imaging, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies, to support diagnosis and treatment planning. • Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management. • Develop and implement treatment plans, document patient progress, and support continuity of care. • Educate and counsel patients on treatment plans, preventive care, health maintenance, and lifestyle management. • Provide inpatient care and participate in hospital rounding schedules, including weekend coverage up to two (2) weekends a month. • Support the educational mission of the Department of Surgery through participation in seminars, conferences, and special programs. • Collaborate with physicians, medical students, residents, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver multidisciplinary patient care.
