About this role
The Role
Kingston School of Art is seeking a technically skilled and motivated individual to join its Printmaking, Letterpress and Book Arts Workshop team on a fixed-term basis. Working collaboratively with technicians, the postholder will provide technical support and guidance to students, with particular responsibility for the Letterpress and Book Arts facilities.
The balance of responsibilities will reflect the successful candidate’s existing skills and experience and may develop according to workshop needs. The role will involve supporting students at different levels through inductions and one-to-one guidance, helping them develop technical skills, project work, experimentation and creative practice.
The postholder will contribute to the smooth running of the workshop, maintaining a safe, supportive and well-organised learning environment and ensuring compliance with health and safety policies.
The Person
We are looking for a creative individual with substantial practical experience in a Letterpress and/or Book Arts workshop. You should have strong technical knowledge and practical competence in relevant processes, techniques and equipment. Applications are welcomed from candidates with particular expertise in either area; training and support will be provided to develop skills across both.
Experience of supporting teaching and learning within an educational institution would be advantageous. You will have a strong understanding of health and safety in workshop environments and a commitment to safe working practices.
Knowledge of other printmaking processes, including Screenprinting, Intaglio, Relief, Monoprint and Risography, would be desirable. You should be confident working with students of varying experience levels and able to provide clear, patient and effective technical guidance.
Excellent communication, organisational and time-management skills are essential, alongside the ability to work independently and collaboratively. A student-centred approach and commitment to helping students develop their technical abilities and produce high-quality work are central to the role.
You will also contribute to an inclusive and engaging learning environment, encouraging experimentation and creative development in line with the Faculty’s ethos of ‘Thinking Through Making’.
